Value Chain Research

The mission of Round Table Africa (RTA) is to become the main knowledge provider on sustainable business in Africa. It is the aim of the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program to generate sustainable business.

Therefore African researchers are trained to develop a knowledge database with information on businesses focusing on quantitative data of sub-national regions, business-stakeholders (private sector actors, business sector actors and civil society organizations) and secondary data including value chain reports, MPhil and DBA thesis and other various articles and reports. The four main indicators and requirements for the selection of sub-sectors are: sustainability, access to markets, potential for new jobs and gender.

The program will work with about 30 research topics, which are organized in four clusters based on thematic similarities and on the availability of resources. The clustering is therefore arbitrary but consist so far of the following four clusters: agriculture, manufacturing and tourism, public services and bio-fuel and extractive industries and supermarkets.
