Sunflower Round Table in Iringa (Tanzania) on March 13, 2009
Organized by Enock Ugulumu
The Round Table meeting started the day by giving an overview of the sector in Tanzania. Next Mr Knopps of the Wood Family Trust - a social venture fund - gave his views on the prospects of the sector. Mr Msonde then followed with a presentation on the issues of sunflower growing and processing in the Iringa region. Thereafter the focus was on the experience of entrepreneurs and associations with the sunflower industry. One of the main issues that was highlighted during the day was the fact that a sunflower or oilseeds association needed to be established in order to address the needs of the sunflower farmers. Also, it was concluded that better farm practices needed to be distributed amongst the sunflower farmers.
